Case Study: Durex Play Packaging - SSL International

Kinneir Dufort - Durex Play Packaging

Kinneir Dufort have designed the packaging for SSL International’s pioneering Durex Play range of sex toys. Working closely with the client team, KD devised a unique series of packs launched in February/March 2005 within the sexual wellbeing category. The form and material selection of KD’s Durex packs reflect female personal care as opposed to consumer electronics. Given the exclusive nature of the toys themselves, the packaging deserved sensitive treatment and the results are subtle and seductive, discreetly hinting at the treasure within. The Durex design brief included particular physical challenges. With shelf space at a premium, the optimum positioning of the larger toys is a key issue. This consideration, combined with the secure containment of the toy, charger and instruction book led to the design of a clamshell that suspends the contents in an exact position. This clamshell is secured with a sleeve and endcaps.

Case Study: DRYTEC Technetium Generator- GE Healthcare

Kinneir Dufort - DRYTEC Technetium Generator- GE Healthcare

DRYTEC, a new portable technetium generator for Amersham Health (now GE Healthcare) was designed by Kinneir Dufort. Technetium generators are used in hospitals for the production of an injectable radioactive solution for use in diagnostic imaging of internal organs.

DRYTEC has more than met the needs of a diverse, conservative and competitive market and has surpassed GE Healthcare’s challenging business objectives. The new design replaces both premium and budget products with a single design which is unquestionably more user-friendly, portable, safer and which is faster and cheaper to produce. Equally DRYTEC’s improved handling, ease of use and clean modern aesthetic has lead to excellent customer reception and increase in sales.

The design of DRYTEC sets a new standard in its market. The simple exterior form, physical arrangement and clear labelling not only make it more attractive but easier to clean and to operate. The design has optimised the lead shield which now provides the best shielding to weight ratio of any generator available, and combined with a unique handle, lifting and safety have been vastly improved. It has been designed to suit production equipment and to fit into the majority of customer facilities.
